It actually helps - low humidity means carpet pad stays drier and mold is rarely a concern. The tradeoff is fine desert dust, which is why we usually recommend a solution-dyed fiber that vacuums out easily rather than a deep plush that traps grit.
Solution-dyed polyester or nylon with a stain-resistant treatment. The color runs all the way through the fiber, so cleaning a pet accident won't leave a light spot, and it holds up well against dusty paw prints tracked in from the yard.
