Every stone reacts differently to mortar, sealers, and the saw - and a stone job done wrong will haunt the home for decades. Modern Concepts Design has installed natural stone across Las Vegas for years, and travertine in particular has been a signature look here for decades - it's the warm, honed material you'll recognize from Summerlin courtyards and countless Henderson entryways.
We supply premium-grade travertine, marble, granite, slate, and limestone from quarries we trust, and we won't install bargain-bin stone that's prone to spalling, pitting, or breaking under foot traffic. Choosing the right stone for a desert home
Each stone has its strengths. The right choice depends on where it's going, how much traffic and sun it sees, and how much maintenance you're willing to do.
- Travertine - the quintessential Las Vegas stone; warm earth tones, slightly porous, ideal for entries, courtyards, and covered patios
- Marble - timeless luxury for bathrooms and feature areas; needs sealing and gentle cleaners

Natural stone needs to be sealed at installation and re-sealed periodically (we'll tell you the schedule for your specific stone). This matters more here than in many cities - our hard tap water leaves mineral deposits that can dull an unsealed or under-maintained stone faster than in areas with softer water. We use premium impregnating sealers that don't change the stone's color or finish - just block out moisture, oils, and mineral spotting.
Stone can also be re-honed or re-polished if it ever scratches or dulls. We're one of the few shops in Las Vegas that does on-site stone restoration, so your investment lasts the life of the home. Prefer a look-alike with zero sealing schedule? Compare it with porcelain tile before you decide.

Natural Stone Tile - frequently asked questions
Yes, and more diligently than in a soft-water city. Except dense granite, all natural stones are porous and will stain or spot without a sealer, and our hard tap water accelerates mineral buildup. We seal on installation day and recommend a refresh every 1-2 years.
Travertine has been a signature Las Vegas material for decades - its warm, honed look suits desert-modern and Southwest architecture, and it stays comfortably cool underfoot through our long summers.
Honest answer: marble etches from acidic liquids (lemon, vinegar, wine). Most homeowners love the patina that develops, but if you want it to look new forever, we'll steer you toward a marble-look porcelain tile instead.
Absolutely - stone is one of the best materials for radiant heat because it holds and conducts heat exceptionally well, which is a nice touch on a cool desert morning. We install electric mat systems under most of our stone floors.
We keep a record of every stone we install and where it was sourced. In most cases we can match the original stone for a single-tile replacement.
